spontaneous design challenge, jakarta,

If we believe that design is not only about creating objects to work the way designers conceive them but also an act of articulating the knowledge someone absorbs from everyday life, we might say that everyone is a designer. Based on this premise, since 2017, @unconditionaldesign practice has been archiving objects that were designed by people in everyday life, curated with open source methods.
We invited @unconditionaldesign to conduct a workshop as an ancillary event, as the main theme happened to intersect with their practice. Domestic objects and unused materials from the exhibition such as mops, brooms, plastic bottles, paper clips, hangers, papers, cardboards, etc. were scattered on the floor. Then the participants chose some objects and constructed a new function spontaneously to solve some of the existing problems around Kopimanyar at the time.
The idea of this workshop was to challenge the participants’ creativity in creating solution-based designs within a limited time. New functions, adapted components, and spatial transformation emerged from their imagination combined with a priori experience. In the end, efficient objects with appropriate functions were born in their efforts to surpass a critical state.
