On 31 July 2024, the exhibition Learning from Mangunwijaya opened at Langgeng Art Foundation in Yogyakarta. It showed the results of a ten-day student workshop held at the Department of Architecture of the Universitas Islam Indonesia from 21 to 30 July 2024.

After introductory remarks by Sally Below (Encounters with Southeast Asian Modernism, Germany) and Avianti Armand (Museum Arsitektur Indonesia, Indonesia), representatives of the Unit Masters and students described their experiences of the workshop programme. Prof. Fathul Wahid, Rector of Universitas Islam Indonesia, shared some very personal words about his relationship with Yusuf Bilyarta Manunwijaya, before H.E. Ina Lepel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Indonesia, opened the exhibition.

In addition to the students, the Unit Masters, representatives of Universitas Islam Indonesia and the organizing team, many members of the press and other guests were present.

The exhibition showcased the results of the ten-day student workshop until 18 August 2024. It was complemented by a presentation of the life and work of Yusuf Bilyarta Mangunwijaya through a timeline, and a book table displaying selected works from Mangunwijaya’s oeuvre as a writer and author of several important books on architecture.
