Learning from Mangunwijaya

As part of the Learning from Mangunwijaya project, a documentary will be produced, exploring the social, cultural, aesthetic, and environmental impacts of Mangunwijaya’s architecture.

Guided by a narrator and local experts, the film will showcase six to ten of the architect’s key projects. The narrative underscores the modernist principle of “material and structural honesty” as a catalyst for improving social conditions, expressing cultural identity, and promoting environmental sustainability. This underlying idea is expressed through the description of each project’s brief, construction process, architectural rationale, and relevance to the local context.

The film will feature extensive visual documentation of Mangunwijaya’s architecture, including the surrounding space and interactions with the community. Additionally, experts will provide insights into Mangunwijaya’s influence on the younger generation of architects.
